When the festive season comes around, millions of us set about our Christmas display of decorations and ornaments. For most, the decorations are modest, both in size and budget. After all, you can create very pretty displays of Christmas trees, lights, and other decorations in a small home, on a small scale. For others though, the bigger the decorations the better, and it is not just commercial enterprises who use giant ornaments and Christmas trees to attract attention. For some private individuals too, impressing the neighbors and visitors is a must, so expansive and flamboyant outside displays, in the yard or garden, have become more common in recent years.

Generally, the large scale outdoor Christmas ornaments are not dissimilar in subjects and designs to their smaller cousins inside the home. The only difference is, well....size. Some of them are massive, and can easily dominate even a large front garden. This means there is an overlap between residential ornaments and commercial displays. All can really be used for either purpose, except that with residential use, there is no chance of recouping some of the cost through extra sales generated through the extra customers attracted by the attractive Christmas displays.

It is not just the size that makes many of these ornaments much more suited to commercial use. The cost can be prohibitive for ordinary hard pressed families struggling with their Christmas budgets. However, for those who have the funds, a home with a display of gigantic ornaments outside for the holiday season can be a fun and rewarding experience.

The first two giant ornaments pictured are both familiar subjects for Christmas cards and decorations. The candy canes shown top left, are very bright and impressive, standing an imperious 8 feet high at the gate or entrance to a store or other commercial building. A more wealthy home owner may well be tempted to use this giant in their Christmas welcome, too.

More modest is the second ornament, but even that is a massive size in ornament terms, at 4 foot. This cheerful snowman is holding up a star that declares "Follow Him". The last picture is not so much of an ornament but a grand entrance to a lawn, garden or commercial entrance way. This colorful arbor will certainly brighten up the evening when arriving home, or entice your neighbors, and maybe a few carol singers, to come visiting.
