Have you ever admired those enormous animated Christmas decorations you see outside some homes and commercial premises? They are certainly made to impress, with their moving light sequences which provide the animation and can mesmerize the audience standing in awe.

While the largest of these giant ornaments you can expect to find at a commercial site, there are always a few householders who want to compete in the Christmas outside display stakes, and may adorn their rooftops, outside house walls, lawns, yards and gardens with a flashing light display. And stunning displays they can be too, soon encouraging competitive neighbors to splash out on their own Christmas giants.

One of the first very large animated Christmas displays I ever saw was a Santa Claus with reindeer pulling a sleigh. While such traditional decorations are no doubt still popular, dear old Santa is entitled to modernise sometimes, even if it is only for a whimsical show. Santa on a motorbike? Well, that's no good for delivering Christmas gifts, he needs the magic of the sleigh and reindeer to achieve that scientific miracle. But for a bit of fun before the big day? Why not?

The first picture (top left) is indeed of our festive hero hurtling at breakneck speed through suburbia. I hope he is a good driver, as he lacks a helmet and sticks to his customary Santa hat. This giant ornament has an animated road underneath to add to the impression of speed given by the rotating wheels.

I have always been discouraged from having big outside Christmas displays, with all the hassle of setting up the decorations and then dismantling. But this Santa on a bike is made for those who like to keep things simple, with its easy to set up and dismantle design.

Santa Claus cannot get his real job done, of course, without his elves working away in their depot. That scenario can also make a great scene for an animated outdoor display, turning your yard or store front into a busy well lit scene, as you can see in the second picture. This Christmas decoration is busy with activity as the elves work away through the hours of darkness, or the working hours you may agree with them and the Department of Labor.

The final giant decoration is certainly more suited for commercial use, except for the very rich. But impressive? That's an understatement, as Santa waves from his vintage steam train with steam billowing and wheels revolving at whatever rate you choose. Even in the daylight hours this massive ornament has Christmas wreaths on display to impress you.

These days, if you want some large scale Christmas decorations that bring alive your yard or garden at night with some lively and colorful animation, there is certainly a great choice.
