Fabric Christmas Decorations and Ornaments - Festive Shopper, Santa Claus and Snowgirl
The use of fabric on ornaments is an old tradition that has remained quite strong over the years. Today, there are quite a variety of fabric Christmas decorations and ornaments to choose from, though they do tend to be outnumbered by other types of decorations.
However, those fabric ornaments that do exist can offer a delicate departure from the usual Christmas balls, and some can even be quite artistic and whimsical.
The subjects for fabric ornaments for the festive season, whether to hang on the artificial Christmas tree, on the wall, or on a door, are a bit more varied than they may have been 50 years ago, when the fabric fairy was top of the tree. The hand painted ornaments pictured on this page are good examples of contemporary themes for decorations which utilize fabric. All these ornaments have a very feminine and modern appeal, yet mix with vintage ideas, especially in their dress.
The top picture illustrates how things have changed over the past 50 and more years. Snowmen were very much a part of winter, snow and Christmas all that time ago. But snowgirls? Not that I can recall from my own childhood. This snowgirl ornament has a fabric dress with feathers to add to her femininity, along with beads and high heeled shoes. Also in the Christmas theme, this snowgirl is carrying a Christmas tree, star and ball.
Our second picture helps to reflect the commercial growth of Christmas as we see a well dressed shopper, in fabric attire, setting out on her annual spending spree, in search of Christmas gifts and other goodies. Her outfit may look vintage, but her intent to spend seems clear in her demeanor, revealing this fabricated lady as a modern Christmas shopping addict.
The final picture is good old Santa Claus, caught in an effiminate pose with his feminine but definitely Santa Claus attire. This is another example of the whimsical elements that have widely been added to Christmas ornaments and decorations over recent years. All good fun, and I am sure Sant himself will take it all in good spirits. After all, festive spirit is his profession.
