Artificial Prelit Christmas Garlands as Xmas Decor

Christmas garlands are another traditional Christmas decoration that has succeeded in going artificial. Some of todays artificial garlands are very effective compared to even a decade ago. The original meaning of garland was wreath of flowers, and I was pleased to see that, when I first came to the Philippines, the presentation of a garland to a visitor is still sometimes practised, with the garland being placed around the visitors neck to drape down over their chest.

One of the attractions of garlands at Christmas time is their flexibility. They can be draped just about anywhere, and look good above fireplaces, at the top of doors, draped over arch tops, and even curled around columns. If you have a collection of garlands, they could even be intertwined on some types of stair bannisters or balustrades. If they are not prelit, you can also effectively mix in lights within the garland, wherever it might be.

All the garlands pictured here are artificial. The practise of adding lights to garlands is a relatively new idea, and aimed especially at the Christmas season. The use of lights definitely adds to the attraction and effect of garlands, thus modernising an old tradition in a pleasant way.

The top picture (top) is of a two tone foliage garland, which has a vintage look about it, despite its artificial manufacture. The second picture adds a wintry tone with its glacier effect, and this can make for a special festive display in the home, especially if there is no snow outside as Christms draws near. The final picture is a modern departure from older tradition, with the colour choice being white for the foliage. However, this does give a picturesque reminder of snow, and fits very well in a Christmas decor theme.
