Creating a Christmas nativity scene for indoors or outdoors is an old tradition. For those who do not have the time, talent or inclination to create their own nativity set in the traditional way, there are two other options. The first is buying a complete indoor nativity set, which is ready and in one piece to put wherever you want in the home or garden. The other is to buy the pieces you need, and just arrange them in the way you want.

For indoors, the items you need for an indoor nativity set are likely to be small and ornamental. Even if you do not buy a ready made set that has been melded into one piece, putting the separate pieces together into a nativity set arrangement takes little time. It is the large, hand made scenes and sets, where you build the stable and some other items, that require a lot of your time.

Finding an ornamental nativity set, or the ornaments required to make your own, is not a difficult task. There's a good chance of finding them in your local stores, and in abundance online if you cannot or are short of time.

Your local department store, though, may not stock the items pictured here by Fontanini. These are all beautifully crafted, and probably cost more than the average nativity ornaments you may come across in the stores. However, they are very popular and much loved.

The three items shown are a small wooden stable and a small corner stable. There are many nativity figurines available separately in the same series, so once bought it will only take a few moments to set them up as and where you want.

It is very important to keep the ornaments in perspective if you want to create a nativity scene of your own, so always check the size berofre buying online. The third item pictured, the resin manger, is large, at 26 lbs in weight and 50 inches high. However, it is of such symbolic significance, just add your own baby Jesus and this item alone is enough to create a complete nativity set, as all other items are incidental.
