Christmas Decor For The Holiday Season
Decorating your home for Christmas can be something of an art form for those who take their Christmas decor seriously. If you are a Christmas "interior design artist", then your choice of decor, with which to perform your work of art, includes a vast array of colourful and sparkling ornaments, trees, lights, chimes, magnets, pins, wreaths, garlands and other decorations.
Your interior design can also extend outside into the garden, with giant Christmas ornaments and decorations, prelit walkway Christmas trees, welcome signs, statues and garden stakes.
For a festive approach to your house, I like the idea of using prelit walkway Christmas trees, similar to those shown in our special Christmas tree section. For day time, garden stakes, traditional Christmas wreaths, garlands, and welcome signs with a Christmas theme can all be used to add festive cheer to the outside of your home.
For those who like a grand show of giant Christmas decorations, you can, of course, adorn the outside of the house and roof with all sorts of giant Christmas decorations. Here in the Philippines, several neighbourhoods have become well known nationally as all houses in the neighbourhood become covered in Christmas lights, Santa Claus, snowmen and other light displays, attracting thousands of visitors after dark in the holiday season.
When inside the house, the entrance hallway and the lounge area are perhaps the most essential to decorate. If the hallway is large enough, it is a good place to have a Christmas tree liberally lit, as they offer such a warm welcome. That does not mean to say you cannot have a Christmas tree in the main living area too, where it will make a wonderful focal point for your Christmas decor.
In fact, with the ornaments on the tree and a display of all your Christmas cards around the room, that may be a sufficent display of seasonal decor for some people. The decor can be extended to walls with wall hanging Christmas decorations, and to the ceilings for those who like streamers or to suspend paper, foil or other decorations.
Like most things to do with home and garden decor, it is mostly a matter of taste, and budget. Often, the best decor designs are minimal, concentrating on blend, originality and quality to get the best overall effect. The same can be true of Christmas decor, with a more subdued display often looking better than the "quantity rather than quality" displays which overwhelm you with garishness.
